APIs are a core part of modern software systems, but keeping API behavior, testing, and documentation aligned is still a major challenge. Many teams rely on manual testing or fragmented tools, which leads to unreliable integrations, outdated documentation, and poor developer experience. ScanAPI addresses this problem by providing automated API integration testing and live documentation based on OpenAPI specifications. It validates real API behavior against the specification, helping teams detect breaking changes early and improve reliability.

Students contributing to ScanAPI will work on a production-grade open source Python project and solve real-world problems. Possible contribution areas include: • Improving existing API testing features • Adding support for new OpenAPI scenarios and edge cases • Enhancing error reporting and test result clarity • Improving documentation, examples, and tutorials • Writing and improving automated tests • Enhancing CI workflows and developer tooling Expected outcomes include merged pull requests, improved documentation, increased test coverage, and hands-on experience with open source collaboration. Mentors will help define milestones and guide students throughout the program. ScanAPI maintains regular Office Hours on the first Friday of every month, where contributors can ask questions, discuss ideas, and get guidance directly from maintainers.
